Fluffy Big POPCORN!! March 27, 2009 Amazon GR8 Shopper (Central FL United States) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I bought this popper as a replacement to my original one that lasted for over 5 years. I think I killed that one by putting it in the dishwasher too many times. Anyway, the Original Whirley Pop Stovetop Popcorn Popper is amazing. Almost every single kernel pops when you use this popper. They pop up bigger then when you use the air popper. It is great when you use it with Amish country popcorn. (amishcountrypopcorn.com) Obviously when you pop in oil the calorie content is higher, so I don't recommend using this popper every time you want some popcorn. But it is great for movie-night!! Just make sure you wipe it out with paper-towel after each use, and NEVER place in dishwasher. :-)
Tips for your Whirley Pop. December 15, 2009 R. Brown (Kentucky) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I have purchased several Whirley Pop Popcorn Poppers from Amazon and other locations. Everyone who sees me use it wants one and thus I have given them to friends as Christmas presents. Rather than restate many things covered in other reviews I will point out a few things.
Before popping make sure the tips of the arms that stir the popcorn are pointed up. If these become flipped while cleaning and the tips point down the tips grind the bottom of the pan.
The directions tell you not to use butter but I have no problem using a mix of half butter and half olive oil.
When buying packages of premeasured popcorn/salt/oil do not buy the 8 oz. size. These are too large for the popper and you have to take it off of the stove before it completes. This results in very salty and oily popcorn. Stick with the 4 or 6 oz. packages.
Remember, solid oils are bad for you and this is what is used in most packages that include the popcorn, oil and salt. If you are buying a Whirley Pop to get away from the hazards of microwave popcorn then consider using olive oil.
Crank slowly. All you need to do is move the popcorn around for even heating. Cranking too fast causes the popcorn to push up onto the side of the pan.
Once the popping is done it may seem convenient to shake a cheese mix into the pan and use the crank to mix it into the popcorn. If you do this the cheese with stick to the shaft and arms of the popper. Pour your popcorn into a bowl before adding flavorings.
Fun and Easy July 10, 2009 Mary L. Hill (Los Angeles, CA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I love this fun popper. It works faster than microwave popcorn and without the artificial flavorings and chemicals. When I first got it, the gear system on the lid didn't work. I called the manufacturer and they sent me a new one right away. It arrived very quickly, and it works perfectly.
Effective and Easy to Clean! April 20, 2009 A. Bayham (Baton Rouge, LA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was ruining one of my good stainless steel pots trying to cook popcorn in it a couple of times a week. And it wasn't even popping all the kernels! The Whirley Pop is easy to use, doesn't burn the pot or the popcorn, and pops almost all the kernels every time. Highly recommended.
Nothing better! February 22, 2009 C. M. Mcintosh (Cedaredge, CO United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This popper is fun, clean, fast, fabulous. We love kettle corn. I can reduce the oil and sugar to 1/8 cup, have a heaping 1/2 cup of corn and we have a giant bowl of un-burned, fluffy corn in minutes with less than 12 old maids!
